How to Find a Reputable Gutter Contractor
With so many different gutter companies out there, it can be difficult to know whether or not you’re choosing a reputable company with a quality product and workmanship. Here are some tips and topics to discuss with gutter companies before moving forward with your project.
1. Proof of Work
A reputable gutter company should be able to provide you with a diagram of the areas on your home that need gutters. They should also be able to provide you with reasons why you need gutters there.
2. Insurance
A reputable gutter company should be able to provide a copy of their insurance policy. If the contractor doesn’t carry insurance and an installer falls during a gutter installation, you will be the one liable.
3. Warranty Information
Reliable gutter installation companies offer warranties on their products and installation. You are choosing the right gutter installation contractor if they are discussing lifetime warranties on the workmanship.
4. Accredited with the Better Business Bureau (BBB)
Being a member of the Better Business Bureau is different from being accredited with the BBB. An accredited business means BBB has determined that the business meets Accreditation Standards, which include guidelines for ethical business practices and a commitment to making a good faith effort to resolve any consumer complaints.
5. Price/Payment
Before you move forward with any gutter installation project, a contract should be supplied that provides pricing, and the down payment should not be more than 1/3 of the total of the project. If a gutter installation contractor demands the full price upfront, then that is a huge red flag.
6. References
Any reliable and trustworthy contractor will have a long list of happy clients that they are willing to put you in contact with. When talking to the references, ask them how the job site was kept, how the contractor handled safety protocols, if the job was completed on time, and if they would hire them again.
